Q & A with Chef Andrea of Andrea's Gourmet:
Q: So, how did you get this idea to become a Personal Chef? A: Many years ago, I was a busy homeschooling mom to four little boys. I desperately wished for someone who could make my life just a little bit easier and answer that persistent, nagging question I faced every night: “What’s for dinner?” I wanted to feed my family the healthy great meals that I knew they should be eating, but there just wasn’t enough of me left by the time 5 pm rolled around. Now that my boys are grown, I am able to meet this need for many busy, overworked Moms and Dads out there. Q: For whom do you normally cook? A: My clients range from busy singles with no kids, to families just trying to get through Sports Seasons, to Elderly Great-Grandmas who miss having great food that didn’t come from a cardboard package. Each one of us has different needs, and my job is to solve your dinner time struggles regardless of your season in life. Q: What style of food do you make the most? A: EVERYTHING! Each customer has their own preferences, so I cook what they like. In my home, I tend to make mostly Mediterranean Foods, but I am Classically-Trained in French Cuisine. But that doesn’t mean I can’t make a mean Lo Mein or Carbonara. One of my favorite things about being a Personal Chef is that I’m not limited to just one type of food. I get to make everything! Q: How do you stay so healthy? You must be surrounded by delicious food all day? A: {laughing} I have learned the value of portion control, gym time (it’s where I regain my sanity some days), and that real food is the best option for me. I cut out an awful lot of empty calories by making these meals healthy. There isn’t very many “processed” foods in my meals. I make mostly everything from scratch, which cuts out a ton of sodium, and I have learned to LOVE veggies! I use fresh and roasted vegetables as my snacks most days. Q: On that note, what is your favorite meal? A: I am a steak girl. I LOVE a good steak! Hand’s down, my favorite meal is a Tenderloin Steak with Lumpy Red Skinned Mashed Potatoes and a ton of Roasted Broccoli! For dessert, just a handful of berries and maybe a dollop of homemade whipped cream and drizzle of honey. Simple. Elegant. Nothing fancy; just real. Q: What do you want your customers to know? A: I want them to know that I really do care about their lives. I am on their side. I want to create a service that meets their every need, whether it is a family dinner around their long-neglected kitchen table or snuggled up in their PJ’s with a steaming bowl of Chicken Pot Pie. I will do my very best, go the extra mile, do whatever I can to bring them home. That was where my motto came from originally: I wanted to give them the food that brought them home.
